You may argue that these rankings vary from site to site and are merely based on what the author thinks or percieves.I myself havnt rated the colleges, nor i am that eligible, but they do help us to get an idea about the colleges.
There are some other rankings of colleges that might be helpful
it gives a comprehensive analysis based on various parameters like govt or private, placement criteria,personality,etc...
Most of us feel that the rankings are not correct beacause
1-We look only the opening and closing rank of a college.
2-Rankings are made for the entire college including all the courses, however while looking at them we have only one thing in mind B.TECH.
3-A number of other factors like infrastructure, placement ,research work ,contribution to the nation also play a significant role.
4-Different agencies conducting surveys have different methods. For eg. some may give more weightage to placement and other may give priority to research work or infrastructure.
4-Different agencies conducting surveys have different methods. For eg. some may give more weightage to placement and other may give priority to research work or infrastructure.
How rankings are made?
Ranking generating is more of a survey where each and every aspect of colleges is taken into account.Lets take look at key aspects of ranking procedure...
1-Step 1:
Preparation of list of colleges to be included in the study
A list of more than 1500 colleges is prepared using list of colleges from past studies. Also, list of new colleges is supplemented through various secondary data sources like the internet, published reports ,etc..
Step 2:Calculation of parameter-wise ranks and overall perceptual ranks at city and zon
The experts are asked to distribute points amongst five parameters- Reputation of Colleges, Quality of Academic Input, Student Care, Infrastructure and Job Prospects. Hence, weightage of each of these parameters is derived
- Based on the ratings by experts, the perceptual scores for colleges are calculated
Step 3: Calculation of parameter-wise and overall perceptual ranks at national level
- On the basis of Step 2, all colleges to be evaluated at a national level were tabulated. Again experts rate the colleges both on national level and on city level
Step 4:Calculation of factual ranks
The perceptual scores at the national level formed the basis for colleges to be rated for factual ranking.
Depending upon the criteria say 200 colleges are chosen for factual ranking and given points according to the documents provided.
Step 5:
Calculation of the final rank
- The points obtained at various steps are added up to decide the final table.
- How to use these Rankings-
- 1-You can use these rankings to apply for the colleges depending upon what you score in various exams like IIT.,AIEEE or other state entrances.
- 2-Dont rely on any one of the rankings, they may be sometimes misleading.
- 4- College and branch selection while counselling sometimes becomes tricky, you can use the above table to make a priority list of colleges you wan to get into.
- 3-To be honest, colleges do have a lot of role to play but they are good till you are performing well,so dont bother about the colleges heavily and concentrate on cracking the Engineering Exam.
- Good luck to all the appearing students :)
